Chapter 34

Anicka turned on her heel and ran, scooping her pack up without breaking stride. Third deck, bay G, on the double. She only hoped their window hadn’t been shorter than Ares had thought.

She saw him as soon as the lift door opened. He stood at the far end of the shuttle bay, and her gaze went directly to him. She wanted to shout and gesture to draw his attention, but there were too many people, and it was best for them if they didn’t even notice her. She darted across the wide space, moving as quickly as she could without actually running. Ares’s searching eyes finally settled on her. Anicka knew the very second he saw her. His entire face lit with a smile

“You made it.” Ares took her hand and started pulling her toward the shuttle’s door. “Just in time. Was there any trouble?”

“Mariel’s here. We can’t waste any time.”

“Did she see you?”

“She was waiting for me when I left. I don’t know how she found out, but she knew about you.”
