Other than the simple wardrobe, the only other piece of furniture in the room was the dark blue chaise against the far wall. How many times had he come home to find her curled up in it, waiting for him? Not enough. She’d be reading or writing in her journal or turned toward the curtainless window it had sat beneath, watching the sky with the most exquisite look of peace on her face. Ares adored those moments, the ones where she wasn’t aware of his presence yet, but he absolutely loved the moments that came directly after, when she turned her head toward him and smiled

She had left her robe draped over the back of the chaise the morning they’d left on that last assignment. It was there now, the black silk trailing along the floor. Anicka pulled free of his hand and crossed the room, stopping to gently touch the smooth fabric.
