“Have you been injected with anything in the past two weeks?” Iara finally asked.

Anicka frowned. The moment she attempted to try and think back, her headache returned. “Not that I know of.”

“There’s a bruise here. I can feel it under the skin.”

“What about the needle you took from Mariel?” Ares asked.

“I don’t remember her ever giving me injections before.” Though the fact she’d attempted to do so at Anicka’s rebellion seemed to indicate it might not be the first time. “Did you get it analyzed yet?”

“I haven’t had the chance. This is the first time we left Warudea.”

“Do you have it with you?” Dr. Iara asked sharply.

Ares produced it from his jacket pocket with great care, holding it flat in his palm for Iara to take. She held the vial up to the light, turning it this way and that, then carried it to the counter.
