Chapter 49

Ares found her first.

“They took her planetside an hour after they walked out of here. On an unregistered shuttle headed for our old stomping grounds.”

Anicka scanned the shuttle’s trajectory. Though the flight was off the books, orbital satellites placed the landing near the hangar where they’d dumped Sheeryn and her bodyguard’s bodies. “That fucking Vander,” she muttered. “He led Circe straight to it.”

“Should I find Vander again?” Espen said. “He might have details we need.”

Ares shook his head. “He’s a pawn.”

“And I’m not risking another leak,” Anicka added. “The last thing we need is to give Circe the heads-up we’re onto her.”

The gaze Ares leveled at her was hard and assessing. “You know they’ve probably killed her.”

“I know that’s a possibility. I can’t walk away without knowing for sure.” Ares had to see that. He understood so much else about her.

His curt nod was made even more so when he turned back to his comm. “I’ll get our clearance to head back to Tiessa then.”
