Chapter 7

Guy went through his morning ritual quickly, and when he wheeled himself out of the bedroom, he found Dane in the kitchen. The table was already set with a glass of orange juice, a bowl of fresh fruit salad, cottage cheese, and sourdough toast.

“This looks…great.”

“Glad you think so.” Dane squeezed Guy’s shoulder absently. “Enjoy it.”

“Are you leaving now?”

“Yeah. I’m not sure when I’ll be back. There’s some leftover soup in the fridge, and a sandwich. There are also some chips and crackers on the counter, where you can reach.”

Guy caught his breath, and his face immediately colored.

“Are you okay?” Dane asked. “You look a little flushed.”

“I’m fine. It’s a little warm in here, don’t you think?”

“If you say so. Here.” Dane turned on the overhead fan. “That should help. Oh, and your painkillers are next to your juice. You can take them now, or later if you need them.”

“Thanks. Oh, do we have any ice cream?”
