Chapter 10

I came to a stop at the fence and observed Ret, Roscoe, and Danny throwing snowballs at each other. It was the most relaxed I’d seen Danny since he’d moved in here.

Ret spied me watching them. “Join us,” he said as he made another snowball and unerringly hit Danny in the chest.

Before I could answer, Danny said, “You little…”

I watched as he gathered up a bigger mound of snow and chased Ret down, his longer legs overtaking Ret so he could shove the cold stuff down the back of Ret’s jacket.

Ret howled, trying to get the snow out of his clothes while the rest of us just about died laughing. Roscoe came over to stand near me at the fence while we watched Ret tackle Danny to the ground, trying to bury him in the snow.

“It’s good, right?” Roscoe asked.

I looked at him briefly. “What’s good?”
