“I see.” I’d broken my arm twice as a child and the time it had taken to heal both times had been like pouring honey in winter.

A few minutes later, Ryker showed up. The front door was open, since it was a relatively warm, pleasant day. He maneuvered his way inside, a little awkward, but smiling all the same. When did he ever notsmile? Another thing that was endearing…I mean, infuriating about him.

“‘Sup, Gavin, Scotty,” he said, slowly making his way across the floor before lowering himself into the chair at his work area and placing his injured foot on the desk, sending a stack of paperwork flying.

Ryker grimaced as I got up quickly to gather the documents. “Sorry about that,” he said.

“It’s not a problem,” I replied, setting the stack on his desk before returning to my seat.

“How are you coping?” Gavin asked as I pretended to work.
