“It’s really up to us?” I asked him. “Whether or not the footage airs?”

He looked to his coworker. “Amy Lee?”

She nodded.

“I’m an ally. It’s up to you, for the tree,” he responded.

“No,” Jefferson said again. “Say, no.”

“We’ll save the tree another way,” I told Amy Lee and her fellow newsperson.

“Like hell you will,” Phil threatened before storming off.

“We’re ready for air,” Amy Lee said. “Get a good shot, Liam.”

“How do I look?” Patrick asked me.

“Handsome as hell. I’m going to puke. Come here, Wilbur.”

Benji Marcum scooped Wilbur up for me, so I could cradle my dog in my arms.

“Just talk to me,” Patrick said. “I’m the only one here.”
