Chapter 7

Zach, tired once again, smiles. “Are you satisfied?”

Aron jerks back suddenly as if from a blow. He licks his lips. “Yes,” he says quietly.

“Good,” Zach tells him shortly and prepares to end the call. He’s exhausted. And tomorrow he has…No. He’ll cancel. Zach will be useless. “Goodb—”

“Wait,” Aron says. “Please.”

Zach freezes. Aron doesn’t seem the type to plead. Then again, what does Zach know?

“You are the same person you’ve always been,” Aron says quietly. “It was…unreal? Confusing? Seeing you as I remembered you and yet so different. That’s why I insisted. That’s why I had to know. It felt like I couldn’t trust my mind. It—I couldn’t have reacted in any other way. I’m sorry. It wasn’t about being satisfied. I wasn’t playing games.”
