Zach feels like he’s missing something, but he doesn’t insist on it. He’ll either find out eventually or not. “When can you come over?”
“In about ten minutes?” Aron hesitates and Zach realizes that he could have said he’s there already.
“Are you…hiding in my neighborhood?!” Zach asks baffled.
“I’m not hiding,” Aron begins with the least important part of the question. Zach wishes he could be surprised. Aron shrugs and says, “The time’s up, they didn’t find me.”
“But?”
“I am in the neighborhood.” Aron smiles sheepishly. “I always was. Higgs doesn’t have the imagination necessary to put himself in somebody’s shoes. He’s not interested in understanding them so he can’t comprehend their needs or, except for sheer bad luck on the prisoner’s part, catch them. That makes him highly unqualified for his job.”
“Few people can keep up with you and even less are capable of staying in your way,” Zach says.
“That may be true, but Higgs is worse than the norm.”
