“I know, I know,” Anton says and his hand gestures a dismissal. “You want to keep a distance. So does Aron. Why do you think he goes by Paddle?” He rolls his eyes. “You’ll stay on the outskirts, but I would be a fool to let either of you go.” Anton gives Zach a meaningful look. “Now, I’m not saying you us owe anything. This one really is our pleasure. I’m just starting to float the idea.”
Zach’s eyes narrow. “I’ll keep it in mind.”
“Good.” Anton raises a finger. “One more question, how’s my grandfather?”
Of course. “He’s…” Zach realizes he doesn’t know how to finish the sentence. Great? Not very rational. But then a negative adjective would be outright lying. “He’s happy.”
