“So, uh, is it okay if I give you this key to my place?” he asked softly.
“Absolutely.” I was surprised, but so happy. He wanted me in his life as much as I wanted him in mine. “I’d give you mine in return, but I still haven’t gotten around to finding a place.”
“I figured as much. Now you have somewhere safe and quiet you can go.” He took a breath, looked over my head and then down into my eyes. “You don’t have to worry. I’ll never bring another guy there while we’re together.”
Together. Him and me. My life was getting much, much more serious. If I cried, I’d be bawling now. I felt safe. Happy. Content. In deep, deep like.
“So you’re okay with the key? With us?” He looked worried like he wasn’t sure about me.
“Yes.” He looked relieved, maybe even a little surprised.
“I didn’t want you to think I was moving too fast.” He gave me a sheepish grin. “I know what I want and go after it. Some people think I go at things too strong.”
