Chapter 47

“Milo, are you all right?”

“Not really,” Milo admitted. “But we can’t rescue Mariana anymore, can we? It’s too late for her.”

Kenta hesitated for a second or two before he nodded. “Unfortunately, she has gone off the deep end. Probably has for quite a while now. The least you can do to honor her and the wonderful memories you’ve shared with her is to remove the darkness from within her and give her a proper cremation afterward.”

“Okay,” Milo said before he gestured at the seven-headed snake. “Good luck with that thing, by the way.”

Kenta scoffed. “I won’t need it. I’ll take care of it in a jiffy. Then I’ll assist you with Mariana. Just do whatever you can to stay alive.”

Milo chuckled at the morbid joke, but Kenta could tell the humor didn’t quite reach his mate’s eyes. Nevertheless, he was glad that Milo seemed to be trying his best to remain upbeat.

“Sure,” Milo promised. “See you later.”

“Count on it.”

“I will.”
