Chapter 44

Hereafter, the conversation ends and the two men disconnect. Jonah fills Sandy on the details of Liam’s accident.

“Jesus,” Sandy says. “He’s lucky to be alive. He could have killed himself.”

“Yes, he is.” Jonah pops a kiss on the tip of Sandy’s nose. “Now, where were we.” He hums. “We were planning to leave, right?”

“Without making a scene.”

Jonah kisses Sandy on the mouth: long, hard, intense. Pulls off. “Let me handle it. You go get a last drink and have a chat with someone. I’m going to fetch our coats and things from the coat room and set them aside in the foyer. I’ll find you, we’ll say our polite goodbyes to all around, and then we’ll leave.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

“Not to worry. We’ll execute this goodbye with the utmost chivalry.”
