Chapter 10

A quick glance at the clock showed he was going to miss his bus, so he barely managed to grab a Diet Coke on the way out, wishing it was coffee instead. After a hurried wave to Professor Melloy, Henry ran across the street. There was the bus. He slugged down the Coke, and jumped on to the bus. After dropping the can in a trash bag by the driver, he fell into the first seat he saw. He checked his wallet: money for lunch, not enough for a snack. One Diet Coke until lunch time was going to make for a long morning. Damn. Usually he grabbed change from the coin jar on his dresser. In the rush, forgotten.

Bad dreams. Henry shuddered as he remembered: in and out of shadows, beneath tall trees high over his head, trees that whispered with the wind as he ran. He ran fast.

Henry wrapped his arms around himself, wishing he had a jacket to take the edge off the early morning chill. His body ached and he was hungry. Definitely roast beef for lunch
