“Hey, Henry.”
“You want to do the clipboard?” Henry asked, his voice tired and grey. He just wanted this long night with Jamey to be over. This was the weighted moment and he had no doubt what it meant. For the first time, he was sure he could see beyond it, more shadows—something he had never been able to do before. As for the dream he had for the past two nights, they were only fantasies.
At least the evening had started out on a more positive note. Dr. Melloy had called out to him when he came up the stairs to head for the bus stop across the street. She had just gotten home from Longwood, with a stop at the grocery store on the way. He helped her get her get the last of her bags into the kitchen.
“Thanks, Henry; that was a big help. Oh, wait, before you go,” she said at the door and quickly waved her hand across his chest. “Oh, good, you arestill wearing the pentacle I gave you.”
“You can tell?”
