Chapter 48

“No, no, oh, oh my God, no,” Kathleen cried again, this time, almost a scream.

The incoming Watcher screeched and dove directly at Kathleen. Ronan screamed and threw himself between her and the monster, knocking it back. It got its feet, hissing. Kathleen swung her staff, smashing it against the monster’s face, tearing at its wing. The creature screamed, staggered, and fell, moaning.

Ronan ran, stumbling, toward the river. Then his wings caught the air and he flew, catching himself once…he was gone.
