Down the street, left at the corner, up the hill. Running, running, running.

I heard him: he told them he loved me. Why didn’t he just close his eyes and Jump? We Jumped here. But he said he couldn’t. I don’t get it. I just don’t get it.

I’ve lost him.

I have to get him out of there.

Henry was afraid to even think the next sentence, but the thought came anyway, slow and painful: he doesn’t want to leave. Jamey’s mother and father and aunt all loved him and the preacher believed he was helping Jamey, saving him.

None of what happened made any sense.
