Chapter 10

Mattie jumped up and pulled out Cam’s chair. He helped Cam out of his coat and draped it over the back of the chair. Mattie was still in the thin gray hoodie and jeans he’d pulled on before leaving the house, but he’d added some shimmering lip gloss and eyeliner at some point since they’d parted.

Cam’s heart stuttered as Mattie rested his arm over Cam’s shoulders while they perused the menus. He’d never dated anyone this tactile before. Cam had never considered himself a cuddly person. His dad was loving, but awkward and reserved, like the rest of his family. That had carried into Cam’s dating life. He’d never sought out those gentle touches and casual caresses. But with Mattie, it felt comfortable.

After they’d placed their orders, Jo and Ashley exchanged glances, their hands clasped together on the tabletop. Ashley cleared her throat.

“So. We wanted you two to be the first to know. We both got cleared for desk positions. No more nonstop traveling.”
