Next we stopped at the park. It was open again, but not many people were there. I had already planned for this.
“I’ve got something in the trunk.” I pulled out a couple bags, and we walked to one of the picnic tables surrounded by trees where we could be alone. I pulled out strawberries, grapes, and a bottle of wine from our alcohol stash.
“How did you do that without me knowing?” Morgan said with a laugh.
“You slept in today.” I smiled and we sat side by side at the table, eating our food, drinking the wine straight out of the bottle. After eating, we threw away our trash, took the bottle further into the trees, and sat on the grass overlooking a creek.
“It’s so peaceful out here,” Morgan said. I leaned my head against her shoulder.
We sat for quite some time, watching the water flow, listening to birds and insects, just holding each other and drinking our wine, talking and laughing. It was still sunny out, even as I looked at my phone and saw that it was eight-thirty.
