Chapter 14

“This is the best you could do?” he asked Preacher who was looking in closets and behind doors.

“I know it’s not much, but it’s private, and I think it has a lot of potential. A little spit and polish is all it needs. Don’t you think?”

“Preacher, it’s a friggin’ dump.”

Rocco got chills when he noticed murky silhouettes of some previous existence along with ghostly laughter that would come and go. As much as he tried, he couldn’t seem to shake the familiarity he felt in the air.

“Who lived here before?” he asked as he continued to look around.

“Not sure, really,” Preacher lied as he made footprints on the dirty floor while he walked around pulling down spider webs and waving his hands to clear the dust in the air.
