We had the university courtyard all to ourselves that late autumn night, and it was heavenly. I gasped, stunned, when the stars came together to form a heart in the blackened sky. “Do you see what I see?” I asked. “Or am I really high?”
“Perhaps, Smarty. But enjoy it.”
It was the most beautiful sight I had ever witnessed, except for the face I envisioned whenever I held his hand. “It’s not the weed. It was you. How?”
“Would you believe fairies?” He traced a smaller heart on my cheek. “Knowing how much I’ve come to adore you, my love, the enchanted ones were all too happy to help me say it.”
High on excitement and affection, possibly a little something else as well, fairies sounded plausible to me.
