“Yes.” Pansy smiled at me.
“Valmont could?”
Delphine stepped in. “Perhaps we should break for the day, mes chèries.”
“No!” The school day was always too short for me.
“You may stay behind, Otto. But the others, a bientot, if they wish, may go.”
“With pleasure.” Liu could not get out of there fast enough. The place was bathed in light from outside when she left the large arched door at the top of the stairs wide open behind her.
“Bye, Liu” Pansy called out to her there, then she waved as she headed the same way. “Au revoir, Madame Delphine. Antio sas, Artemis. See you later, Otto.” She was up the stairs by the time she said all that.
“I hope so, Pansy.” I sniffed the air once she was gone. “Artemis?”
“Yes?”
“You didn’t say goodbye to Pansy.” Greek was not one of the languages I spoke, but somehow, I knew the words for goodbye. Perhaps it was just the context.
“I waved,” Artemis said, and that made me smile.
“So, you’re still here.”
