“Do not let her harm you,” he begged.

“I don’t care,” I said, then continued to chant. “They’ve brought us trouble far too long. Help us spirits make them gone. No.” I whimpered when Artemis slipped from my arms and I saw the bowtie fall to the floor. “He’s gone.”

The three witches turned toward the others, my mother, my sister, my grandmothers, and friends as they continued to chant.

“Take me,” I said. I wanted the witches to kill me. Vanquish me. “Send me away, right along with Artemis.”
