Chapter 11

“But…” Royce whined. “It’s Saturday.”

Jack sucked in a deep breath through flailed nostrils and took a step backward. He gave Royce a pointed look.

“You’re startin’ to push, sweetheart.”

The look in Royce’s eyes made Jack think that was what she was after. A bit of reprimanding. A gentle hand to guide her. All Jack could give, but he’d do it in his own way and time.

“Yes, Jack,” Royce murmured, holding just a hint of petulance in her tone. “Any particular thing you want me to do before you make me go to bed before the sun sets?”

Eyebrows shooting up, Jack made a noise in the back of his throat. That right there was Royce pushing for something more. Something she most definitely would not get that way.

“Go put your computer on charge,” Jack said. “Then you can come back in here and help me cook.”
