“That sounds perfect,” Vale said. She slipped off her apron, hung it on a peg behind the counter, and made another hand motion for someone to take over her place. When she stepped out from around the counter, she held out her hand to Ivy. She took it eagerly, and was soon filled with warmth.

“It’s such a beautiful day,” Vale said, peering through the glass. “If not a little cold. What do you say to eating this outside?”

“Yes,” Ivy said right away. “I couldn’t dream of anything better.”

“For now, anyway,” Vale said.

“Yes,” Ivy added. “For now.” 6
