The Papas had given Tre a dappled grey Arabian filly for his birthday. “I thought I’d name her Ishtar. She’ll make a perfect goddess.”

“I’m sure.”

“Will you come out after breakfast to see her?”

“I’d love to.”

Alan was caring for the farm’s dogs and cats. “Mr Parker visited the farm the other day. He thinks I did a good job patching an orange tabby’s eye.”

“I’m impressed.” Our local vet preferred to work alone, and for him to encourage Alan indicated he considered my youngest brother was indeed capable. Alan beamed with pride.

Arianne had tried out for a play in her primary school. “And I should have got it because I can cry!” To demonstrate, she burst into tears.

“But you didn’t get it?”
