“Who are you?” she asked, giving a soft chuckle. “I don’t even know your name.”

“Sorry, I should have said earlier. It’s Andrew Dorincourt.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Andrew Dorincourt. I’m Kate Fitzhugh.”

“Thank you for this afternoon, Kate Fitzhugh.” I pressed a kiss to her temple, relieved the madness had passed.

“I hope you don’t think I’m…I’m loose for letting you make love to me.” She was a few years older than me, and a bit more experienced than the girls I was used to dating.

“I think you’re a very kind woman. I would never think less of you.”

“Thank you. That’s kind of you.” She caressed my cheek. “I know you don’t love me, Andrew, but thank you for saying so earlier.” She brushed a kiss across my lips, and for the first time I noticed she tasted of all things wild and dark. “I…I’d better make my way home.”

“All right.” I helped her to her feet and gathered her clothing. I admired her figure as she dressed—all sleek, toned muscle. “Have you a piece of paper?”
