Chapter 76

He stumbled on the stairs, and he whipped his head around to stare at me, his eyes wide. I thought for a second he would come back down, but after a silent struggle, he resumed his climb to the first floor and disappeared into the dimness of the landing. Only after I heard my bedroom door close quietly did I go back into the lounge. My family all stared at me with interest.

I propped my fists on my hips and glowered at each of them. “He’s mine. Any objections, and none of you will be pleased with the outcome.”

Mouths dropped open, and surprise showed clearly on the faces of each of my siblings. And then they began to grin, in spite of my raised eyebrows and the glower I sent toward them.
