Edward Whitman did not like most people. He never let his dislike of social interaction remain much of a secret either and yet people still insisted on inviting him to events throughout the Season. Nuncheons and evening balls and theatre parties. He knew why, of course. His attendance would all but assure a success. Edward knew this without arrogance. It wasn’t so much that hebrought success. It was what he was. A duke. The Duke of Wellingham. Someone holding the highest hereditary title of Society’s peerage beneath the Crown accepting an invitation helped garner both excitement and gossip for the event while also boosting its popularity.
