“Oh, yes. It seems he loved her, so he didn’t hide it. She loved him, too, until the day he decided to eliminate me.” He flashed a rueful smile. “He was my first kill. After that I did what I was destined to do until the ‘great awakening’ as a friend of mine calls it.”

“Yep. Since then I only go after the bad ones, like Vicario. I’ll admit I was more than surprised to discover there are a lot more good vampires than bad, so I guess something worthwhile came out of humans accepting us for what we are.”

“It sure made it easier to live among them without fearing for our lives, or them fearing for theirs,” Gideon said.
