Chapter 34

Edan took a seat on a nearby bench. For a while, he watched the people strolling along the path that wended its way through the park. Eventually, however, his gaze locked on Gideon. It took time, but slowly he saw the lines of stress soften on the half-elf’s face until they vanished completely. The tension in his body disappeared as well, a good thing, he decided, if it meant Gideon was doing as he’d said, drawing strength from the tree and the earth. I wish that was something I could do. It would come in handy at times.

It took almost an hour until Gideon opened his eyes and Edan saw they had turned from bright to deep blue. He smiled at Edan as he got to his feet. “That does it. I should be able to hold the glamours for as long as we need them and shield us as well.”
