“One of us didn’t understand any of it,” Taylor said.
“I’d like to ask you to forgive me. Can you?”
“Honestly, I don’t know. This story, it’s about me in a way, too, you know. We were public. Together. Together publicly. So, now, I look like a fool, too, right? For not knowing my boyfriend is gay.”
“All I can say is I’m sorry, Taylor. I’ll say it as many times as it takes. I’m sorry.”
Taylor shrugged. “I don’t know, Ben. I don’t know.”
“I have no right to ask this, but…Can you keep what I just told you in confidence?”
“The whole world knows, Ben.”
“The whole world—not even—some peopleare just gossiping. No one knows, except the people I told.”
“I’d never want to hurt you.” Taylor smiled.
“Same. And I really am sorry I did.”
She allowed Ben to hug her before he had to take off to practice.
