“Who is it?”

“Fuck you, too,” said Ian.

“Oh, Ian. How’s it going?”

“You sound fucked.”

“You woke me up. What do you want?”

“What do I want? I don’t want anything. But I think you should know that Robert just called me, wanting to know where you were.”

“Oh, fuck. What did you tell him?”

“I told him I didn’t know.”

“Oh, shit.” Zack sounded considerably wider awake. “What did you do that for?”

“You didn’t tell me you were using me as an excuse. I told him I didn’t know where you were.”

“But I told him I was staying at your place,” he said angrily.

Ian was also losing his cool. “You didn’t tell me! How am I supposed to know where you were or what you were doing? What wereyou doing?”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it.”

Ian saw red. It was one thing for Zack to feed Robert a steady meal of bullshit, but he was damned if he was going to be fobbed off.
