“Wait. I swear. I really didn’t expect you to be so upset.”

“You really didn’t?” They kept going, through the pantry, into the kitchen, the dining room, into the formal living room where they’d started. “You really didn’t?” Milo grabbed his Father Christmas robe as he reached the front door. “That pisses me off even more! Because I guess you don’t know me, then, as well as I thought.”

“Where are you going?”

“I’m not sure.” Milo reached for the knob. “But if we have any real shot, if we mean anything to each other, if any of this is what we’re saying it is, we’re close enough where I can say something, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Grow up, Tom Alan!”
