Tom Alan watched her walk away and then dialed the first digits of Milo’s number three times before he let it ring through.

“Hey, luv—”

“Don’t say anything. Let me say everything before I chicken out.”

“It’s late. Shouldn’t you—”

“Milo. Stop. We have to break up.” He waited for Milo to speak then, but he didn’t. “This whole wedding thing—my marriage—you’re better off not being a part of that.”

“What in hell is happening over there?”

“Kyoko-san is insisting Erika and I get married. So we are. You need to accept that it…it’s not a good situation for you.”

“Do I get to bloody speak now? Because you don’t fucking make up my mind for me, Tom Alan.”

“I’m making up my own mind. No one could be that understanding, that willing to play second string, or whatever,” Tom Alan argued. “Bill and Kiki are done. It wouldn’t be fair for her to have no one and me to have you.”
