A little while later, Frankie calls. “Hey you,” I say.

He just sighs. A heavy sigh coming from somewhere deep underneath his feet.

“It’s been that kind of day, huh?”

He lets out a long groan. “I never want to see chocolate again.”

I chuckle. “You’ll feel differently tomorrow.”

“Nooooooo. Tomorrow will be even worse. And don’t even get me started about Saturday.”

“Okay then. You’ll feel different on Monday.”

“Lawrence! You’re my fiancé, you’re supposed to be on my side. Say ‘aw, poor baby, it’s all right, you don’t have to do it.’”

“I’m calling you ‘baby’ now? You hate that.”

“Just roll with it.” I can hear him pouting through the line.

“Aw, poor baby, it’s all right, you don’t have to do it.” I make sure my tone is dripping with syrup.

“Yuck. You’re right. Don’t call me ‘baby.’”
