Chapter 14

“You’ve worked your magic again,” Bryson said, staring out the passenger side window of his mother’s Mercedes, looking at the main entrance to the Equestrian Excellence Facility. It had been only eleven minutes from his parents’ house once they’d got on the highway, and yet the town of Pelham, even that close to the city, looked like another world altogether. While St. Catharines referred to itself as the Garden City due to its plethora of parks, gardens, and trails, it was still very much a city in most places. Pelham, on the other hand, at least this part of it, was trees, bushes, fields, country houses, barns, and more trees. There were few things in life that made their privilege so apparent as his mother’s ability to quickly purvey special treatment when she chose to.

“It looks like a country club from here. Are you sure we’re at the right place?”

His mother laughed. “Funny thing about that, my golf club is only another ten minutes down the road.”
