“Thank you, Seymour,” he said, “please keep me informed as to how it goes.”

“Yes, sir,” the young man said, swiftly retreating as Labyrinth turned his attention back to the vast, towering shape in whose shadow he stood.

It was a miracle, in many ways, a terrifying testament to how far they had come in the last thirty years. Immobile and silent, stoic and unknowable, there was no mistaking the giant creature for what it was: a homunculus awaiting both a human pilot and the addition of a secondary homunculus. In another thirty years, there would be no need for massive vessels like the Ayanami, there would be only such colossal and daunting titans as this, FF-XX, as it was designated, though Labyrinth had another name for it.
