Chapter 46

“Meow!”

Benjamin sighed at Clement. “You shouldn’t have done that. Now, she’s really mad at you.”

“Meow!”

Then Clement swiveled its head away from Benjamin, displaying its displeasure by refusing to look at him. He chortled softly as he exited from the diner. Clement and Catrina were like two peas in a pod sometimes. They were both so temperamental at times. Benjamin decided to ignore Clement for the time being. He knew what Clement was like when it got into one of its tantrums. He rumpled up the piece of black paper in one of his fists and inhaled deeply before he let the magic flow through him. The next thing he knew, he and Clement were standing outside the blackened remains of a house that had recently been burned down by a great fire. It reminded him of Ryan, but he shoved that thought to the back of his mind as fast as possible. He hated thinking about Ryan. Handling young and innocent souls were always painful, heartbreaking, and difficult for him.
