Chapter 31

Troy knew he’d made the right decision. He didn’t like the thought of Adam going back to that stone cold mausoleum of a house and probably eating alone or with parents who didn’t care for him as much as they should. Troy didn’t know this last for a fact, although he was pretty sure he was right. 10

It wasn’t until the following Monday that Asher told Troy he was ready to go see Beck. “Mom and Dad aren’t happy about it, but they said it was up to me.”

Troy resisted the urge to ask how they’d explained away their lie that Beck didn’t want anything to do with Asher. That was none of his business. “Okay, great. I’ll call Beck and let him know. You want to stay for supper?” He was pretty sure Beck would be up for that.

“Uh,” Asher looked down. “Maybe not this time. Let’s, uh, just see how it goes, okay? I have things to say to him and no doubt he has stuff he wants to say to me, too.”
