Chapter 49

“Put me down! I need to do this at my own pace.”

“Sorry, babe.” Troy knew he’d gotten carried away. He set Beck down, gave the man a kiss and an apologetic smile.

Beck smiled back, took Troy’s left hand in his right and walked slowly to the lake’s edge

“It’s okay. I got you,” Troy said when Beck seemed to freeze.

Beck nodded, squared his shoulders, and took a small step forward, his foot landing in about an inch of water. “It’s not as cold as I thought it’d be.”

“Uh huh.” Troy was beginning to wonder if his senses of heat and cold had been changed when he’d been given his powers. He could feel the water, knew it was a different temperature from the ground, but…He couldn’t explain it, and just at that moment he needed to focus on Beck, who’d taken a couple more steps forward. “You’re doing great.”

They turned to the side and walked a few paces, water just above their ankles.

Beck smiled. “This is fun. Don’t know what I was afraid of.”
