Chapter 52

As he formed his small group of eager-faced students around him, Troy hoped he knew what he was doing. He’d been an adult leader of a Cub Scout pack and coached a college football team—okay, junior coach—so he’d be able to train a half dozen sotans, right?

He nodded to the kid to his immediate right. “Okay, Mark. You first. What’s your special power?”

Mark shrugged. “They haven’t told me yet.”

“Haven’t told any of us,” Steve, the kid on Troy’s other side said.

Troy closed his eyes. What kind of operation was the CSA running? He could understand why they hadn’t offered him much help—given the rarity of tuohygans—but six sotans were created every year. So they should have had an effective program in place.

Opening his eyes again, he addressed the group as a whole. “What are you guys good at? Did anything just work for you when you tried it?”

They all shook their heads.
