“Uh, yeah.” Troy wiped his sweaty palms on his pants legs.

“Nervous?” Scott’s eyebrows rose in surprise.

“Yeah. Gotta give a speech, remember?” Troy had been persuadedto say something witty and/or profound before declaring the fundraiser open. He’d agonized for days over what to say. Beck had helped him write something down, and the folded piece of paper seemed to weigh heavily in his pocket.

Scott patted his shoulder. “You’re a tuohygan. Worry doesn’t look good on you. Hell, I’m amazed, and gratified, you’re not, like, walking around with a huge ego. With all your powers, you could.”

Troy turned right onto Main Street. At first glance, there seemed to be more vendor booths and food trucks than previous years. That didn’t do much to boost his confidence. Then he remembered, Scott had said something. Oh, yes, Troy getting big-headed. He grinned. “Nah. That’s not me. And besides, if my ego starts to swell too much, Beck punctures it pretty quickly.”
