Chapter 106

Isaac gripped his shoulder. “Well, I can tell you for sure that you’re not going to be able to do a damn thing hiding up here.”

“I’m not hiding.”

“Fine. You’re not hiding.” Isaac said it like he was humoring a child. “So open your eyes and come the fuck down.” He patted Jake’s shoulder and then swore quietly as he pulled himself to his feet. “Okay, that’s it. Playtime’s over. Get up.”

“Yeah, okay.” Jake said it so softly he was sure Isaac couldn’t hear it through the wind. He slapped his hands over the rail and then used it to pull himself upright. But his legs were half numb with pins and needles, and he was clumsy from exhaustion, and the next time the catwalk trembled, Jake’s foot slipped off the narrow metal edge and suddenly most of him was hanging in mid-air.
