When they got into the pickup, Jian drove them toward Nortown. Victor bit his tongue not to ask what they were doing.
While he drove, Jian was talking about the job he was doing for Dave, and Victor listened with a smile on his lips. It had been ages since Jian had talked to him about his job, and it was nice to see him excited.
When they got to Nortown, Jian passed the parking lot in the center of town, and drove into a clearing in the woods. Victor stared in surprise. “Wow, that’s a lot of cars.” There were cars everywhere. He hadn’t known so many people were living in Nortown.
“Yeah. One of the guys told me they often have village activities here: egg hunts at Easter, a bonfire at the end of April, stuff like that.” He shrugged.
“And today they’re having?”
“A snowman competition.”
Victor blinked. “What?”
“Most creative snowman wins.” Jian gestured at a mountain of snow someone had dropped in the middle of the clearing.
“We’re building a snowman?”
