I did it! Lyle was certain it was only a respite until Orsino regained his strength, but it gave him time to do the same.

Then, Orsino looked past Lyle and the smile that lit up his face was filled with pure glee. “Tell me, my young sorcerer, can you protect yourself andyour pet gargoyle, because you will have to if you want him to live.”

“My what?”

“You don’t know?” Orsino’s grin was positively feral. “By all that’s holy, you don’t. How delightful that I should be the one to break the news to you.”

“The question is, can you take on both of us,” Damien said from behind Lyle.

“I can, and I will. You’ll be first so that Lyle can watch you die in agony.”

“Keep him busy.” Damien’s words were so soft Lyle barely heard them—but he did. He was still stunned by Orsino’s revelation; however, it didn’t stop him from doing as Damien had asked.
