On my way out, I dug through my jeans pocket and left my hand there for a moment, smiling widely with a huge lift in my heart. There was no way the size error was a coincidence. I realized it more than ever. It was meant to happen, and I was ready to surprise Miguel. I didn’t care how fast it was. I felt it was right, and I wanted to do it.

I left my apartment and exited the building. I hopped inside the backseat of Juanito’s dark-red pickup truck, and he started driving. As I scooted to the middle to look in between both front seats, my heart flipped at the sight of Miguel sitting in the passenger seat, even though I’d already known he’d join us.
