“Everybody knows Otto’s off the game, and that he’s blaming you for it.” Emboldened by his temporary acquiescence, her hand slid upward, less demanding, more companionable. “Whatever it is, you can’t talk yourself out of it if he’s putting a bullet in your back.”

He grimaced at the imagery. “Nobody would be stupid enough to give him a gun.”

“Someone might sell him one, though. Like at that store where your pretty boy works.” She let that sink in for a second before adding, “This is what happens when we break our rules, Seb. People get hurt.”
