Wes succeeds. Briefly. He has branches slapping their body—distantly aware that the person is a man—and grass tripping him.

That doesn’t seem to deter the man though. If anything, he becomes more desperate. He runs that much faster, ignoring the stings of new growth and the pokes from different bushes.

Wes tries to capture him in those more than once. But with the two contradictory actions, he doesn’t have the power to trap the man. And Wes, himself, is running. He can’t stop any of the directions his skill is pulled into, but he also can’t put a lot of power into them.
